Unwelcome Visitor
There are many after-hour visitors on our campus. This visitor is checking out the tiny home and job box.
Electrical Work on Tiny Home
The rough-in of the electrical as you may recall was completed at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Due to a break-in over the summer where the perpetrator removed half of the electrical lines. Students in the construction classes began the repair of the electrical at the beginning of December. Also as part of the installation, I am having the students place the receptacles and switches in as well. This is usually done after the wallboard has been installed. Some of my electrical tools were stolen as well, and I lost my ability to test the wires. (Something I will be rectifying over the holiday break)

Clean Up on Aisle 14
Students helped clean out the shipping container next to the chicken coop and room 14. Room 14 was nailed by a recent rain storm we had this past Monday and Tuesday, 27 ceiling tiles show water damage. The shipping container had become a drop zone for junk as well.
Room 14 has been dedicated for use by the construction classes. The students have been using the room exclusively for construction activities. In past school years the room has been used for ROP classes and Spanish classes.

Joshua Tree. The Dog House
Click here for an article about exclusive homes in Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree is the closest National Park to Upland, Ca. Lately, some people are building very nice homes and renting them out at substantial daily prices. The house described as the Dog House is just one example of these homes.

Lake Mead Water Level
Lake Mead a reservoir created to hold water for states is currently near an all-time low. When the lake level reaches an elevation of 1,400 feet water supply to the state of CA will begin to be cut. Water is a key component for life and the viability of a community. Currently, the City of Claremont is requiring residents to cut their water usage. Claremont, as a city is allowing watering of the lawn only once a week. As of now, the City of Upland is requiring its residents to reduce water consumption by watering lawns three days a week. The current level of the lake stands at 1,406.
Lake Mead is a reservoir formed by the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in the Southwestern United States. It is located in the states of Nevada and Arizona, 24 mi east of Las Vegas. It is the largest reservoir in the US in terms of water capacity.

Tiny Home Broken Into.
September 24, 2023 Update. 😞
The tiny home's exterior door had been broken twice over the summer and was not of use to keep people out, so recently on another Friday night someone (I have photos) went into the tiny home and ripped out the existing #12 and #10 electrical copper wires. Possibly $10 on the black market, but cost many, many hours of student work to install was stolen. What I thought would take a school year to complete, but, COVID definitely played a huge part in the delay of the completion of the Tiny Home 😡. I hope to get back started in the 2nd quarter of this school year.
To recap, the project began in December 2019. In early March 2020, COVID began. Construction stopped. In the 2020-2021 school year we came back to campus in the 3rd quarter. In the remaining time of the school year, we placed the exterior siding on the Tiny Home. Last year, even though we were back in school, the student had changed. The students were addicted to their phones. I was able to break a few students of their new bad habits and had them help with the Tiny Home build. We completed some interior framing, rough electrical, and installation of the insulation.
And in one night some IDIOT took it upon himself to score $10 in electrical parts to ruin a semester of work! I hope I do not sound too bitter, I am not, I am just frustrated. These two persons were caught on video walking around the school campus for 5 hours on a Saturday night. They left with something in those bags! I honestly feel sorry for a 30+ individual who is spending his Saturday night on a high school campus.
