Work Cont. on Shear Walls

On Tuesday we placed the first most upper shear wall. Realizing it was a bit dicey placing the plywood with the small scaffold and ladders we had Mr. Connor was able to obtain a much larger scaffold from a local contractor. With the new scaffold in place the construction class installed the north & east walls, plus half the south wall on Wednesday.

Placing Joist Hangers

Today we removed the tarp from the tiny home and completed the placement of the double top plate on the upper wall!

Our new work station. Students over the break moved three benches that were used during the garden construction over next to the construction shed. The table helps keep things off the ground and makes it easier to do some types of nailings and screw fastening.

The tiny house, today we were installing the upper double top plate.

Upper Wall Complete!

Since we had not really come up with a roof design earlier in the project for the tiny home, the wall was constructed to a height of 8'.  This week we decided to go with a flat roof and began construction of the upper wall. We had rain on Wednesday of the week.

Upper Wall Construction Begins.

The classes were able to complete the construction of the two upper walls before running out of supplies. The students constructed the north and west walls of the upper deck.

Note: Last week students trimmed pine tree branches that were over our construction site. The end result we now have sap, lots of sap.  I need to move trailer over a couple of feet. About moving trailer, it appears someone damaged the crank, I am unable to move trailer at this time. We need to purchase some parts for the crank.

Week 3 Work - Begin work on Roof.

The house is currently framed to the 8' elevation, 96". According to the DOT, the maximum height of a tiny trailer home is 13' 6" from the ground (162").  From the ground, to the floor the height is approx. 32 inches, leaving us approx 34" for the loft wall to be under the 162" height. Note that the loft begins at the height of 87", which leaves approx 46" of headroom for the loft space. This week we hope to build the upper portion of the wall and add roof trusses.

Monday, Nov 18. This day was used as a cleanup day. We switched sheds between PE and the Farm. PE moved into the old farm shed and the PE shed was converted into the Construction Shed. All of the Farm materials were moved into the shipping container and the surrounding area. Both the Farm and the construction classes were used for this endeavor.

House Keeping

Today we switched storage units with Mr. D's P.E. stuff. The Construction Class material now occupying the red tuff shed next to the tiny house. By making the move, this will provide more time to work on things as putting things away becomes much easier and quicker.  The other, much more important item is that the tuff shed offers a better secure location for tools, equipment and material that are used during the construction of the tiny home.

Work on the Tiny Home - Finished construction of loft and interior wall between bathroom and living space.

Note: On Sunday, November 17 I picked up three windows from a local contractor to use on our tiny home. I placed one of the windows in an opening for show.  Still lots of work to be done before the windows can go in.
