Tiny bike trailer

I received a broken bike trailer from my younger brother Andrew who's children were now all in school.  I removed the material cover that was held together by metal supports.  My plan for the trailer is that I want it to carry fruits and vegetables.

My thoughts are to make it in phases. Phase 1 would be the basic platform carrier. Phase two will be where I can add some type of shelving.

Tiny Trailer Project

Another project that was put on hold due to the Coronavirus in early March was the tiny trailer.  The period 4 and 5 construction classes framed the trailer up to wall height.  I cam back in May/early June and place a roof on the trailer and painted it with the help of Mrs. Cazarez.

Week 7 Activities

Basic electrical switch to light install practice  in the classroom.

Residential Electrical Wiring

Please watch the video on residential electrical wiring. The video was made in Canada but for the most part, materials are similar. In America, for residential construction, the blue plastic boxes are used in lieu of the metal boxes. Metal boxes are mainly used in commercial jobs. The first video shows how to install an electrical outlet, which when I am back you will be required to do.

The 2nd video explains how electricity flows. The video explains what ground, neutral and hot wires are.

Edge Metal and Cap Sheet installed! Roof Complete

Today the students and I installed the drip edge metal and 2nd ply (final) roofing! For the edge metal we placed a second 9"strip of Flintflash and set the edge metal in a bonding agent and primed the edge metal. We nailed the edge metal at a min. of 6"OC.  We then laid the second and final cap sheet on the roof. On the cap sheet we nailed 16" OC at the 3 inch edge strip. We made one penetration for a 1 1/2 inch VTR. We placed the vent cap on top of the exist midply, placed bead of caulk and nailed it down with roofing nails. We then laid another 9" step of midply before placing cap sheet over it. We then beaded around the edge of the cap sheet and metal.

Fire block Completed

Today, Friday 2-14 the students completed the fire blocking at the 48-inch level. We discussed design issues for clothing storage, kitchen storage, and cooktop location today.  A couple of cool ideas came forward. In regards to the clothing storage we decided instead of shelving next to the entry of the tiny home we would put a clothing closet.

In the kitchen, it was decided that we could integrate some type of storage into the 2x6 loft framing that could hold kitchen items.  As far as the location of the cooktop burners. It was decided to move them to the right closer to the bathroom and placing a microwave above the burners allowing for an exhaust fan.

We still have not come up with a design location for the TV entertainment center.

This week we completed the installation of the plywood on the tiny trailer.  The roof framing and the roof still needs to be installed. This week we had to repair the coop box, it was knocked off by a student leaning against it.

Also, a PO was placed with the UUSD for the materials needed to complete the tiny home!!!!!

W9 Jan 20-24

Week 9 Jan 20-24.

Tiny Home update.  Still waiting on some funds to continue work on the home. In the meantime, the students have been working on a tiny trailer. The tiny trailer will be used as a hen house and portable chicken and goat hauler.

The class also helped out on the farm installing a fence to increase the goat run and folded up some pool covers that were dropped off in our back area. These pool covers will be used to cover our farm compost pile.

W8 Jan 13-17

Moving a little slower on the tiny home.  Preparing to do some electrical labs in the classroom for the preparation of electrical work on the tiny home.

Cont.work on the Tiny Trailer this week.

I came across a cabinet at the district warehouse back area in a dumpster. Mrs. Haver and I retrieved it from the dumpster and will give it a second life. We brought it over to the school, had the students make some repairs to it and then hung it up in the storage shed. It should work well with the organization of tools and materials.
